06-21-2012 Man Shot Harmony Road
JUNE 21, 2012.
PRESS RELEASE
Parker County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting call in the 1300 block of Harmony Circle, Wednesday.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m., and started out as a man giving an unknown male a ride home.
The victim told deputies he had been drinking heavily and was at the Pilot Truck Stop in Weatherford when he asked John McKennon Wimberly, 24, of Millsap, for a ride to his residence in Weatherford.
At some point, the pair became involved in a verbal dispute, and Wimberly stopped his truck at the intersection of Harmony Road and Harmony Circle in Weatherford.
Wimberly’s father was traveling behind his son in a separate truck and came upon the pair arguing and stopped.
The victim reported Wimberly and Wimberly’s father forcefully removed him from the vehicle. A physical altercation ensued between Wimberly’s father and the victim. The victim then reported that during the altercation, he heard a “pop” and was wounded.
The victim was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment and was later released.
Wimberly told Sheriff’s investigators that the victim refused to get out of his truck upon several demands. Wimberly then told deputies the victim struck his father with a case of beer and he (Wimberly) shot the victim in defense of his father with a .22 revolver in the victim’s left calf.
Wimberly was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.
Wimberly posted a $100,000 bond and was released Thursday afternoon.
The case is currently under investigation.
