AUGUST 5, 2013.

ParkerCounty Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man following a pursuit Sunday, August 4, 2013.

Sheriff Larry Fowler said the incident began shortly before 1 a.m., at the intersection of Tin Top Road and Bethel Road.

Sheriff’s deputies observed a 2002 Ford Escape traveling north on Tin Top Road at a high-rate of speed and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to deputies’ patrol vehicle’s lights and sirens, leading deputies in a pursuit.

During the chase, the driver made a sharp left turn into a café’ parking lot at Bethel Road, returning onto Tin Top Road and again onto Bethel Road. The driver continued to flee from deputies reaching speeds of up to 85 miles-per-hour, while disregarding traffic laws and crossing the center line, entering the opposite lane of traffic.

Additional Sheriff’s units joined the pursuit and deployed road spikes on Bethel Road near Lution Drive, rendering the vehicle inoperable due to flat tires about one mile from Bethel Road and Lution Drive.

When the vehicle finally stopped, the driver immediately exited the vehicle, continuing to flee from Sheriff’s deputies on foot. He attempted to jump over a nearby fence, but failed. Deputies quickly apprehended the driver, who was identified as Geovani (Jovani) Osiel Martinez Vasquez, 21, of Fort Worth.

Vasquez was transported to the Parker County Jail, where he was booked in and charged with evading arrest detention, a third degree felony.

As of Monday morning, Vasquez remained incarcerated on a $10,000 bond.
