Parker County Sheriff’s deputies arrested several people resulting from a high-speed pursuit in Springtown, Thursday evening.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said shortly after 5 p.m., members of the Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (FAST) attempted to serve a warrant at a residence a known suspect was said to frequent on Oak Meadows Drive.

Once on scene, the suspect identified as Samuel Burtis Cox, 37, drove by the residence and immediately fled from deputies, leading them in an eight-mile pursuit down Hilltop Meadows to Cactus View Drive, to Summit Ridge, then Highland Circle. Cox, the sole occupant of the vehicle, traveled at speeds up to 80 miles-per-hour in residential neighborhoods on Harms Way Road at the intersection of Springfield, where he left the roadway and crashed through at least five fences on eight properties. The pursuit ended when Cox wrecked the vehicle, landing in a horse arena.

Sheriff’s deputies reported Cox continued to flee on foot from the crash site, and observed Cox to throw a baggie of suspected methamphetamine into a horse trough. FAST members apprehended Cox within 100 yards.

Sheriff’s investigators searched the residence at Oak Meadows Drive where the pursuit began, discovering additional smaller amounts of narcotics and a large amount of suspected stolen property inside the home.

Four additional suspects were arrested at the scene including two occupants of the home identified as Othe Leonard Wallis, 46, and Karri Lyn Tandle-Ludington, 29. Joy Lynn Johnson, 44, was also arrested on scene along with David Anthony Headspeth, 32.

Sheriff’s investigators spent several hours seizing and logging the suspected stolen property into evidence, including copper wiring, power and hand tools, electronics, coins, silverware, chargers, light fixtures and clothing accessories. Sheriff’s investigators anticipate to clear several local cases of theft and burglaries as a result of the items recovered.

Sheriff Fowler said the reckless actions of the part of the suspect could have been potentially worse.

“Luckily, no one was injured as a result of the pursuit,” Fowler said. “The suspect came dangerously close to several barns and residences, showing no regard for life or property.”

Samuel Cox was arrested on a local theft warrant and two out-of-county theft warrants. Cox faces additional evading arrest/detention, narcotics and other charges.

David Headspeth was arrested on a local warrant for obstructing highway/passageway.

Othe Wallis, Joy Johnson and Karri Tandle-Ludington were charged with possession of a controlled substance. Additional charges for all individuals involved are pending the ongoing investigation.
