Woman Arrested: Providing Marijuana & Alcohol to Minors
NOVEMBER 20, 2015.
PRESS RELEASE
Weatherford-Parker County Special Crimes Unit members conducted the investigation of a Springtown woman who provided marijuana and alcohol to minor children at her home during a party.
Parker County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the woman, identified as Mandy Nichole Wells, 32, on a warrant Thursday evening.
Parker County Sheriff’s deputies received the initial information, and conducted a preliminary investigation of an underage party held earlier this month at Wells’ residence in the 300 block of Meadow Road in Springtown.
The investigation was turned over to the Special Crimes Unit, where SCU members identified eight of the juveniles attending the party, confirming their ages to be from 12 to 14 years.
A search warrant was conducted at Wells’ home, where drug paraphernalia was found and seized as evidence.
Wells implicated herself to investigators, by saying she had possession of the marijuana and alcohol and further offered it to the juveniles at the party.
According to the probable cause warrant affidavit, Wells told the juveniles they “could all drink some beers, since they were all spending the night.” Wells later told investigators she “allowed the children to smoke and drink, but she kept them under control … the children did get high but did not require any special attention … she thought for a minute that it [giving beer and marijuana] was a bad idea but she did it anyway.”
Investigators additionally reported that during an interview with Wells, she admitted to “self-medicating” a child, because the child’s medication was not working.
Investigators said Wells provided the minors marijuana and alcohol without prompting, which she and the children smoked in her bedroom and living room.
Investigators spoke with the parents of the juveniles who stated they all wished to pursue charges against Wells on behalf of their minor children.
Wells has been charged with Second-Degree Felony delivery of marijuana to a child and a Class A Misdemeanor for furnishing alcohol to a minor. Her bond was set at $20,000. As of Friday afternoon, Wells remained incarcerated at the Parker County Jail.
