PRESS RELEASE
Parker County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division is conducting a shooting investigation which led to one man suffering a gunshot wound to the back of the head early Saturday morning.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said the incident occurred in the 5000 block of East Highway 199 in Springtown around 3:30 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed two males identified as Jamon Coleman Pierce, 23, and Dakota Dean Ramey, 22, arrived at the residence seeking to make an illegal drug purchase from the occupant, identified as Cody Joop Cudd Jr, 22.
After a conversation, Cudd offered to sell Pierce and Ramey an undisclosed amount of suspected Xanax, which the men declined due to lack of funds.
One of the men pulled a pellet pistol on Cudd, in an attempt to rob him of the drugs. Cudd then pulled a .38 revolver on the men, chasing them out of the residence.
The pair attempted to flee the scene in a 2007 Dodge Nitro, as Cudd shot at least three rounds from the front porch of the home at the fleeing vehicle. One round went through the rear windshield of the car and struck the driver in the back of the head. The vehicle crashed a short distance away. Both men exited the car and fled the scene on foot.
Sheriff’s investigators arrived on scene and spoke with Cudd, who was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Rainy weather conditions prolonged a search for Pierce and Ramey. Both men were located hiding in a nearby field.
The Dodge Nitro was towed from the scene. A search of the residence revealed a small amount of marijuana, a glass pipe typically used to smoke illegal drugs and several suspected Xanax tablets.
Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division Captain Mark Arnett said charges are pending regarding Pierce and Ramey.
Sheriff Fowler said the driver, identified as Pierce, received a non-life threatening injury and was transported by ground ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment.
Sheriff Fowler added the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time pending the outcome of the investigation.
