Student Arrested for Social Media School Shooting Threat March 4, 2018.
PRESS RELEASE
Parker County Sheriff’s investigators arrested a male juvenile this evening in connection with making a school shooting threat.
Late this afternoon, a complainant appeared at the Sheriff’s Office reporting a male student posted a social media threat to “shoot-up” Cross Timbers High Academy on Monday, March 5, 2018.
The school is located in the 200-block of Harmony Road.
Other complaints received by the Sheriff’s Office stated the same information had been received through a social network called Snap Chat from the same 15-year-old male student, who is not being identified due to state juvenile laws.
Sheriff’s investigators and deputies immediately began an investigation locating the student.
Sheriff’s deputies contacted the suspect and his parents.
The suspect implicated himself in making the threat, and admitted to posting a “selfie” with the hashtag #schoolshootingchallengemonday.
The suspect then told investigators the threat was posted as a “joke.”
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said any statements made in regard to any school threat will be taken extremely serious and will be handled accordingly.
“We will always take the appropriate actions to ensure the safety of every student and faculty member,” Sheriff Fowler said. “Each report of a school threat will be investigated immediately, thoroughly and accurately.”
Sheriff’s officials have been in close contact with Cross Timbers Academy administrators implementing student and school security measures.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a juvenile detention facility on a third degree felony charge of terroristic threat.
