ParkerCounty Sheriff Larry Fowler is pleased to announce this year’s recipient of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas Academic Scholarship.

The $500 scholarship was awarded to Caitlin Olivia Rose, 20, of Weatherford, who is a currently enrolled at TarletonStateUniversity. She will be a junior during the fall semester and is majoring in Music Education.

Caitlin is a member of, and section leader, in the Sound and Fury Marching Band at Tarleton. She has also earned principal flute in the Tarleton Wind Ensemble, and is a member of the Absolute Flute Trio. Caitlin is one of two undergraduates in Texas selected to participate with Sir James Galway in his Master Class. She was one of 300 musicians chosen nationwide to perform at the Collegiate Band Director’s National Convention in South Carolina in March.

The Sheriff’s Association of Texas has a strict list of requirements in which students must maintain in order to be eligible for the scholarship. All recipients must be currently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time student, maintain a cumulative grade point average, have completed at least one semester of college, be less than 25-years-of-age, must not be convicted of a crime making them ineligible for employment in their field of study and submit a brief biological narrative, written by the student, stating why the applicant would be deserving of the scholarship.

Caitlin is an honor student on the Dean’s List at Tarleton and maintains a 4.0 grade point average.

She is the daughter of Meredith and Marc Gray, of Weatherford.

Sheriff Fowler said he was thrilled to present this year’s scholarship to Caitlin.

“She is a top-notch student and very deserving of the award,” Fowler said. “It is a pleasure to present this to a student who is diligent with her academic studies and talent.”

Fowler added his gratitude toward the Sheriff’s Association of Texas.

“A growing number of students have had the opportunity to further their education and strive for higher professional careers due to the Sheriff’s Association awarding these scholarships,” Fowler said. “I look forward to presenting the award each year. It is just one of the benefits of being a member of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas.”
