Sheriff’s Animal Control Officers Seek Dog Owners Nov. 25, 2014.

Parker County Sheriff’s Animal Control Division is seeking the owner(s) of a Great Dane dog.

Sheriff’s Animal Control Officers (ACOs), were dispatched to several calls concerning the Great Dane Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, 2014, around 10 a.m.

A concerned citizen found the dog, named Grace, according to her Microchip, near the intersection of Fairview Lane and White Bull Lane in Millsap. The concerned citizen brought the dog to a local veterinarian clinic due to its serious condition, after it was discovered wandering.

Grace is described as a female about 2-years-old, with a gray coat containing black spots.

“Grace’s ribs and hip bones are visible through her coat,” said Sheriff’s ACO Supervisor Karen Kessler. “According to the veterinarian, she is suffering from a case of severe malnutrition and slight dehydration. Her blood tests returned showing she has low protein levels and her liver enzyme levels are high. These are classic effects resulting from lack of food.”

She is currently under close veterinarian’s care. Kessler added Grace should weigh about 90 to 100 pounds, but the veterinarian staff weighed her Tuesday at only 52 pounds.

“Grace’s state is deeply saddening,” said Sheriff Larry Fowler. “She has been suffering for quite some time. It is terrible to see an animal in this condition. This is starvation in its worst form.”

Sheriff’s ACOs are investigating Grace’s case and have been unsuccessful at identifying and locating her owner(s).

ACOs reported Grace has one eye which appears to have been surgically removed. “She is very docile and seems well-trained,” said Karen Kessler. “She is very friendly and has a loving disposition despite her extreme state.”

ACOs also reported that Grace has not suffered any apparent recent physical injuries, and do not know if Grace has been missing or was neglected.

“Starvation is painful,” Kessler said. “We are hopeful she will survive this horrible ordeal. We’re also hoping in determining more of her history after she has been given a full evaluation by a veterinarian staff.”
